As expected Beauty Parlour was the undoubted jewel in the crown of the hotly anticipated final leg of the Wildenstein Stables Dispersal which reached its climax on Friday night with the €1.6m sale of the former French 1000 Guineas heroine.

At the Orby Sale and during Thursday’s final foal session Peter Brant’s White Birch Farm picked up a host of the very best offerings from this landmark dispersal and that was again the case on Friday eveningt. Acting through Goffs representative Nick Nugent, White Birch came close to capturing Beauty Parlour when jumping the price from €200,000 to €1 million.

Owner Paul Makin then entered the fray and he provided the sole resistance to Nugent but when the price reached €1.6 million even the bold Makin was forced to admit defeat. Beauty Parlour has played a major role at Goffs over the last couple of months with her Dubawi colt having sold for €1.4 million at the Orby Sale.

Prior to Beauty Parlour’s entrance to the ring the seven figure barrier came within touching distance as the listed-placed Galileo mare Amerique sold for €975,000. The dam of Thursday’s sale topping €775,000 Siyouni filly became the subject of a prolonged battle and at €950,000 it briefly looked as though Ballylinch Stud’s John O’Connor might carry the day.

However, he was forced to shake his head when White Birch Farm, acting again through Nick Nugent, moved the price on a little further. Amerique is a daughter of the multiple Group 1-winning racemare Aquarelliste.

Japanese agent Riki Takahashi outlasted Henry Beeby, acting on behalf of White Birch, for the Group 2 Prix de Malleret winner Pacific Rim. The six-year-old was sold in foal to Zoffany and is a half-sister to fellow Group 2 scorer Prairie Star. Takahashi reported that his purchase would go to Japan having bought her on behalf of Northern Farm and it is hoped that she will visit leading sire Deep Impact.

Altamira, a 12-year-old Peintre Celebre mare in foal to Lope De Vega, was bought by White Birch for €530,000 and the same buyer snapped up the 10-year-old Sadler’s Wells mare Peinture Rare, carrying to Dansili, for €410,000.

Another Peintre Celebre mare, Andromeda Galaxy, in foal to Charm Spirit, sold for €400,000 to M.V. Magnier.

Eamon Reilly of BBA Ireland gave €340,000 for Pleasant Valley, a five-year-old mare by Shamardal who won three races and is in foal to Makfi.

GALILEO MAIDEN

Prior to the Wildenstein dispersal getting underway the pace on what looked an excellent day’s trade was set by the regally-bred Galileo filly Typique who went to Laurent Benoit of the French-based Broadhurst Agency for €450,000.

The twice-raced three-year-old maiden is out of the Prix Marcel Boussac heroine Denebola, who is a daughter of the brilliant French champion juvenile Coup De Genie. Benoit was unsure of plans for his purchase but indicated that she could head to America.

FASCINATING PURCHASES

The sale benefitted from a notable input by Maurice Regan who raced the recently retired dual Group 1 winner Fascinating Rock under his Newtown Anner Stud banner. Regan, acting through the BBA Ireland’s Eamonn Reilly, secured some choice breeding prospects to visit his son of Fastnet Rock, who will stand at Ballylinch Stud in 2017.

One of the most expensive of these purchases, at €350,000, was Godolphin’s winning juvenile Mrs King, who is a daughter of the high-class American runner Coretta. Before going to stud, the daughter of Dubawi will go into training with Dermot Weld to try and secure some blacktype.

Also set for a date with last year’s English Champion Stakes hero is the Raven’s Pass filly Evening Rain. The Tinnakill House offering was sold in foal to Siyouni and fetched €230,000 to provide her connections with a tremendous return on the 40,000gns she cost at last year’s Tattersalls December Mares Sale.

Eamonn Reilly’s spending continued into the later stages of the session when he splashed out €260,000 on Meri Shika. This daughter of Spirit One was sold in foal to leading sire Kitten’s Joy and she was a stakes winner in America as well as showing a good level of form in France.

GODOLPHIN DRAFT

Another sought-after member of the Godolphin draft was the useful three-year-old Shrill, who won twice for Willie McCreery as well as reaching the frame at stakes level last year. A half-sister to the Ribblesdale Stakes winner Silkwood and to the Cherry Hinton Stakes heroine Silent Honor, Shrill cost Badgers Bloodstock man Grant Pritchard-Gordon €300,000. She was bought for an Australian client to race initially before eventually being covered to southern hemisphere time.

A short while later, the China Horse Club also made its presence felt when going to €235,000 for the winning Raven’s Pass mare Falling Petals. The half-sister to the Group 1-placed juvenile Huntdown is carrying to Exceed And Excel, who is the sire of this mare’s close relation and high-class sprinter Cotai Glory.

PERFECT TIMING

Last month Moyglare Stud’s Instant Sparkle enjoyed a tremendous update to her pedigree when her juvenile daughter, Making Light, bagged the Group 3 Killavullan Stakes. This timely boost was reflected in her price as the daughter of Danehill cost David Nagle €260,000. Instant Sparkle is in foal to Make Believe.

NEWSELLS PARK

Airlie Stud’s unraced Galileo mare Raggety Ann is destined to join the Newsells Park Stud broodmare band after being knocked down to Julian Dollar for €220,000.

This four-year-old is carrying to Zoffany and comes from a quality family that produces high class runners with impressive regularity. Raggety Ann’s immediate relations include the Group 2-winning sprinter Muthmir and his C.L. Weld Park Stakes-winning sibling My Titania.

Another member of the Airlie draft was the placed Galileo mare Marie Celeste and she went to Reiley McDonald for €200,000. Marie Celeste was sold in foal to Fastnet Rock and she is an own-sister to the Silken Glider Stakes winner Gemstone.

McCREERY FILLIES

In addition to Shrill, there were several other useful Willie McCreery inmates on offer. These included Garrett Freyne’s teak-tough Colour Blue who won at least once in each of the four seasons that she raced. She cost Rathbarry Stud €150,000 and this price was matched by her dual listed-placed stablemate Fact Or Folklore.

Elsewhere, David Redvers paid €150,000 for Godolphin’s Potent Embrace, who is in foal to Dawn Approach. The daughter of Street Cry is out of the high-class miler Karen’s Caper.
