THE inaugural meeting of the recently launched ‘Go Racing Student Society’ took place on Irish Gold Cup day in Leopardstown on Saturday last, one of the most prestigious meetings in the Irish racing calendar. Despite the weather conditions the day was a tremendous success. A large number of students braved the elements to experience a thrilling day of racing.

A quality card was on offer with four Grade 1 races. The highlight of course being the Irish Gold Cup which was captured in resolute fashion by Carlingford Lough for trainer John Kiely, who came from a seemingly impossible position of last to first to land the spoils under jockey Mark Walsh, giving the horse back-to-back wins in the race.
