BERTRAM Allen and Molly Malone are joint second heading into round two of the nail-citing final of the Longines FEI World Cup final in Las Vegas tonight.

Reigning Olympic champion Switzerland’s Steve Guerdat and Albfuehren’s Paille showed exactly why they are leading the World Cup contenders by keeping an entirely clean sheet heading into round two.

An uncharacteristic mistake by the grey mare and her 19-year-old rider Allen caused gasps from Irish people all over the world as the pair collected four faults in the opening round of tonight’s World Cup final.

Allen and French rider Penelope Leprevost (Vagabond De La Pomme) are in joint second on five penalties apiece. This gives Guerdat a fence in hand heading into the second round.

Rich Fellers and the Irish Sport Horse Flexible had two down to finish the round on eight penalties.

With the second round due to begin at 10pm Irish time, the top 20 riders will go through to jump an entirely new course.
