THE Gary Portelli-trained She Will Reign has stormed through the Golden Slipper markets to be an outright $3 favourite for Rosehill’s A$3.5 million juvenile Group 1 over 1,200 metres on March 18th. Stepping out in the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes on Saturday over Rosehill’s 1,100 metres, the Manhattan Rain filly missed the start to settle last.

Gliding through the field as many shifted wide for better ground, jockey Ben Melham just had to keep her switched on and steer. Slicing to the lead with 150 metres to go, she went on to win by a length and a half. “She missed the start and I thought this’ll be a test now,” said Portelli. “But after she ran 100 metres and settled, ...well, I just know what we’ve got with this horse. She put herself into the race from the 600 metres onwards, and it just showed what we believe she’s got.”
