Tabcorp and Tatts merger on hold

THE proposed A$11 billion merger between two of Australia’s biggest wagering companies, Tabcorp and Tatts, will go back to the courts after the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has decided to appeal the decision of the Australian Competition Tribunal (ACT) to ‘green-light’ the merger. The two companies, alongside their other gambling interests, control the racing totalisator, or tote, across Australia through joint-venture partnerships with all the principal racing authorities, aside for Western Australia who manage their own tote.
