EVERYONE involved in the thoroughbred industry is invited to attend two major events in Co Kildare this week which form part of the 2015 International Thoroughbred Breeders’ Federation Congress.

Hosted by the Irish Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association (ITBA), the Congress will see over 90 international delegates from 36 breeding nations descend on Ireland.

As part of the Congress, the ITBA hosts an Open Veterinary Forum at The K Club next Thursday, September 10th at 2pm. Expert speakers will offer advice on the use of endoscopy at sales, with special reference to foals and endoscopy’s subsequent relevance to performance. This will be followed by a review on the use of radiographs at sales.

The veterinary forum will also include a review of genetics in the thoroughbred industry and a presentation on the protection of the thoroughbred industry from inadvertent selection for adverse traits.

On Friday evening at 7.30pm, an International Symposium will take place at Goffs, with gates opening at 6.30pm. This symposium will deal with the internationalisation and commercialisation of racing.

The panel consists of HRI chief executive Brian Kavanagh, racehorse owners Teo Ah Khing and Sheikh Fahad Al Thani, plus trainer Dermot Weld. This event will be streamed through the itba.ie website.
