Aidan O’Brien will attempt to win the Beresford Stakes for an incredible 16th time and for a sixth season in a row when racing returns to the Curragh on Sunday.

The Group 2 contest has an elite roll of honour and among the 17 entries that stood their ground on Tuesday is the O’Brien-trained Capri who features prominently in the betting for the 2017 Derby.

O’Brien is responsible for nine of the remaining entries and also included is Douglas Macarthur and Exemplar.

Fresh from saddling his first Group 1 winner on the flat, Joseph O’Brien will be hoping to deny his father, Aidan, once again and has left Curragh maiden winner Arcada in the Beresford Stakes alongside Eagle Spirit.

Old favourite Gordon Lord Byron is among an intriguing list of 18 entries for the Group 3 Renaissance Stakes which has attracted notable British entries. Eddie Lynam has a strong hand with Sole Power and Fort Del Oro and in total there are six British entries remaining.

The highly rated Forgotten Rules is likely to make his seasonal debut in the listed Sycamore Lodge Loughbrown Stakes for trainer Dermot Weld and Sunday’s eight-race card also includes the lucrative Mongey Communications Joe McGrath Handicap over five-furlongs for which last years winner Tylery Wonder may bid for a repeat success.

There will also be a packed program of entertainment during the afternoon to celebrate the successes of Irish Pony Club members this year and this will include a special Musical Ride performance by the Laois and North Tipperary Pony Clubs, presentations to Pony Club members who have been selected for Inspirational Awards and a Jockey Skills display on the track with ten pony club members taking part.
